Highline/ Chelsea Tour
New York is a city of neighborhoods, and few districts have changed over the city’s 400-year history more than Chelsea and the West Side.
New York is a city of neighborhoods, and few districts have changed over the city’s 400-year history more than Chelsea and the West Side. This area has been home to military forts, the meat packing industry, maritime trade, factories, and the Trans-Atlantic passenger trade.
Chelsea boosts fascinating connections, from George Washington to Prohibition, to World War II and the Mafia, even the R.M.S. Titanic, and a particular gentleman in a red suit who visits once a year on Christmas Eve. Join us for a tour that explores Chelsea’s origins, evolution, and how it has become a symbol of renewal and rebirth in a constantly changing city.
The tour also includes a walk along the Highline, one of the most unique parks in N.Y.C. Constructed on a long abandoned rail line, it now boasts gardens and other features. You’ll enjoy a leisurely walk along the park, from Gansevoort Street in the Village to Hudson Yards.
